48 Apartments, Revitalized Alley, and Duke Ellington Tribute Proposed for DC’s West End

A new residential project is in the works for downtown DC that aims to revitalize an underdeveloped alley and outdated office space in the West End neighborhood. It has been learned that ONE Street Commercial Properties is planning to transform the former office buildings at 2121 Ward Place, 2112, and 2115 Ward Court NW into a 48-unit apartment complex, complete with two café/retail spaces.

One of the most exciting features of this development, designed by Rich Markus Architects, is the conversion of an inactive alleyway into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly area with a variety of retail options. Additionally, the office buildings are situated at the birthplace of jazz legend Duke Ellington, and the developer has promised to incorporate a tribute to the musician into the project.

Currently, the buildings along Ward Place are mostly vacant, with the exception of a USPS processing center. The development team recently shared their plans with the community and will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
