A Mural of Community Life

“Wheaton Lives,” a vibrant mural completed in June by Baltimore artist Bridget Cimino, captures the essence of Wheaton’s history and diversity. Spanning from a Native American village to modern-day scenes, the mural is a colorful tribute to the community’s evolution and daily life, inviting viewers to explore its rich tapestry.

Autumn Delights

As fall approaches, treat yourself to the apple cider doughnut sundae at Jimmie Cone in Damascus. This delightful dessert features a fresh apple cider doughnut topped with soft-serve vanilla ice cream, hot caramel, whipped cream, and a cherry. Look for this seasonal favorite to return mid-September, priced around last year’s $8.

Inclusive Yoga for Everyone
In 2021, Arlet Koseian-Beckham, founder of extendYoga in North Bethesda, recognized a lack of diversity in the wellness community. To address this, she launched the Repped Inclusive Yoga Series alongside her team, including Ayanna Wells and Zahra Abbassi. Each month focuses on a different community, featuring classes led by instructors from that group and showcasing their art and products. This September highlights Latinx culture with Spanish classes and a visit to the Latin American Film Festival, while October will offer trauma-informed yoga and sessions for breast cancer survivors and those in recovery.

Nature’s Playground
The newly opened Nature Play Space at Woodend Nature Sanctuary in Chevy Chase offers a fantastic adventure for kids. Designed for ages 10 and under, it features interactive elements like a water play area, climbing boulders, and a giant log “bird nest.” With trails, gardens, and a pond to explore, it’s a perfect spot for outdoor fun.

Splash into Fall
Don’t miss out on summer fun just yet! The indoor Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center, open year-round, features the county’s only aquatic climbing wall, where climbers can splash into the water below. With additional amenities like lap lanes, hot tubs, and slides, it’s an ideal place to keep the summer spirit alive well into the fall.
